Preserving the Voices
That Shaped California
Women in California Politics (WICP100) is a nonprofit foundation dedicated to documenting and honoring the legacy of women who served in California's legislature — and inspiring the next generation to do the same.

A Mission Born From One Dinner Table
In 2013, at an alumni dinner for women who had served in California's legislature, Founder Sunny Mojonnier picked up a camera and began recording. What started as an informal conversation became the seed of Women in California Politics — an organization committed to capturing these stories before they are lost.
The history that inspired it runs deep. In 1918, Grace Doris, Esto Broughton, Anna Saylor, and Elizabeth Hughes became the first four women elected to California's State Assembly. By 1924, they had all lost their seats to men. Over the next fifty years, only ten additional women would serve in the state legislature. That era of erasure is exactly what WICP100 works to reverse.
"Empowering, Educating and Inspiring — By Preserving, Protecting and Providing."
Today, WICP100 holds one of the most comprehensive collections of oral histories of women in California politics — pairing video-recorded interviews with museum exhibits, educational programs, and a growing digital archive open to researchers, students, and the public.
What We Stand For
To educate, empower, and inspire future generations to foster the spirit of public service and encourage community involvement.
Every oral history we record, every exhibit we build, and every program we run is guided by this mission. The women who came before left behind more than policy — they left examples. Our job is to make sure those examples endure.
A permanent, accessible archive of California women's political leadership — preserved in their own words.
Through video oral histories, a museum displaying photos, original letters, awards, and personal artifacts, and an expanding digital library, WICP100 is building the resource future historians, students, and leaders will rely on.

Hon. Sunny Mojonnier #30
Sunny Mojonnier served in the California State Assembly before founding Women in California Politics in 2013. Her vision was direct: the stories of women who had shaped California's legislature deserved to be preserved, not just remembered. As Founder, Historian, and Curator, she has led WICP100's growth from a single recording at an alumni dinner into the most comprehensive oral history collection of its kind in California.
